3DAC

This research program aims to study scientific and medical reports of visual range of 3D content variety that may be present on our computer, television or cinema screens.

It gathers the main national members around the creation of a platform of acceptability of 3-D effects (3DFovéa set up by the Institut Telecom).

It includes three key participants in the public domain : Ficam ( Federation of Audiovisual Cinema and Multimedia Industries), the Institut Telecom (national actor of the digital life) and the clinical component with the unit Inserm 650 of the Latim (Medical Information Processing Laboratory) ; on the industrial scale : Doremi Technologies (world leader in digital servers), Eyes3Shut (manufacturer of active 3D glasses) and 3DLIZED specialized in high-impact short content’s creation mixing all the techniques of relief.

The first objective is the development of scriptwritting and technical compromise for transmitting the desired emotional effects while preserving the aesthetic and the comfort of the content.

A second point concerns the health component and aims to measure the impact on population at risk in order to provide recommendations to both content and technologies.

It is necessary to fit for the possibility of 3D content production’s irregularity to anticipate and avoid massive discomfort and their side effects.

Partner broadcasters and the Ficam will ensure the compatibility between scientific studies and qualifications implementation to prevent uncomfortable content diffusion which may produce side effects such as vision problems, nausea or headaches.

Edu-3D

Edu-3D stands for Education in 3D dealing with the evaluation of the implementation of 3D projection technologies in France. The project involves 10 classes testing 3D and hybrid 2D-3D contents. There are 300 pupils, 15 teachers and 10 schools directly and indirectly involved in the 3D pilot. The project started in January 2012, for a total duration of 24 months. The Edu-3D project is conducted with pupils between 12 and 14 years of age and focuses on the science curriculum area. The goal of Edu3D project is to determine the most effective type of 3D experiences in the classroom and to measure the value and impact of these experiences on pupil learning and achievement as well as to identify the most appropriate technologies in terms of 3D acceptance. The research will also examine learning strategies and teaching processes and measure the meaningful impact of 3D on educational outcomes. Partners are: R2D1 (project leader), Institut TELECOM / TELECOM Bretagne, Centre Régional de Documentation Pédagogique de l’Académie de Créteil, Texas-Instruments, Eyes3Shut, NEC Europe and Hachette Publishers.
